Clinical Supervision Training

Training Course Description:

The two-day ($150) training will provide the participant with 12 hours of education in supervision methods, models and techniques, roles and responsibilities of a clinical supervisor, techniques specific to supervising counselors in the tasks of diagnosis, treatment planning and providing treatment and evaluation of supervisees in their work assessment. This training will also cover the ethical guidelines and legal requirements for supervisors, using the 2014 Code of Ethics from the American Counseling Association and the most recent Arizona Board of Behavioral Health Examiners statutes and rules.

The one-day ($80) training will provide the participant with 6 hours of education reviewing supervision methods, models and techniques, roles and responsibilities of the supervisor and provide opportunity to practice in providing feedback and evaluation to supervisees in their work.

Dr. Steven Farmer has been licensed as a Professional Counselor and Marriage and Family Therapist in Texas since 2003. He was an Approved Supervisor in Texas and provided supervision to master's level Counseling students for over 4 years. He also provided supervision to new professionals seeking independent licensure. He became licensed in Counseling and Marriage and Family Therapy in Arizona in 2014. Dr. Farmer has been teaching Counseling full time since 2007. He continues to provide supervision to master's level Counseling students. He is active in professional organizations and contributes regularly to the field through presentations at national, regional and state conferences. In 2015, Dr. Farmer successfully completed the 30-hour Approved Clinical Supervisor training provided by University of North Carolina Greensboro. 

This training meets AzBBHE criteria for supervision training.  

The criteria, according to their website, which was recently updated, states:

Completes one of the following:

a. At least 12 hours of training that meets the standard specified in R4-6-802(D), addresses clinical supervision, and includes the following:

i. Role and responsibilities of a clinical supervisor;

ii. Skills in providing effective oversight of and guidance to supervisees who diagnose, create treatment plans, and treat clients;

iii. Supervisory methods and techniques; and

iv. Fair and accurate evaluation of a supervisee’s ability to plan and implement clinical assessment and treatment;


*Consult the AzBBHE for specific requirements to qualify as a clinical supervisor. Recent inquires have indicated that LACs can complete the training, but will only be eligible to use the training if the LAC is within 3 months of LPC credential.
